APC Criticizes Adeleke's Suspension of NURTW Activities

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Governor Ademola Adeleke's directive to suspend all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state. In a statement by Kola Olabisi, the APC described the order as unconstitutional, illegal, and beyond the governor's authority.

The directive, issued after a security meeting, instructed police and security agencies to halt NURTW operations and arrest individuals claiming to be union officials. The APC argued that this action interferes with a legally registered association and contravenes Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of association.

The party also noted that local government authorities had already suspended NURTW leadership and activities due to a leadership crisis and were in the process of establishing a caretaker management committee. The APC expressed confidence that security agencies would not enforce what they termed an unlawful directive and referenced a Court of Appeal judgment that declared a similar suspension by the Oyo State Government unlawful.
