Gov. Tambuwal's Security Remarks Ignite Local Backlash

On Wednesday, during the commissioning of the Garin Magaji-Gittarana Road and the Silame Bridge in Silame Local Government Area, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal remarked on the absence of bandits during his journey from Sokoto to Silame.

He expressed satisfaction with the trip, suggesting that the security situation was not as dire as reported. However, this statement drew criticism from local residents, including Bello Umar Tozo, who stated that the security reality in his community was starkly different.

Tozo reported that residents were actively guarding farmers due to fears of attacks, with at least 14 people killed since the harvesting season began. He mentioned a recent payment of N20 million for the release of a relative, who later faced violence.

Another resident, Umar Musa, noted that while Silame town was relatively safe, surrounding villages were experiencing significant security challenges. Aminu Abubakar Dikko, a former councillor, confirmed ongoing insecurity, stating that residents organized night patrols due to fears of attacks.
