Students Protest After Colleague's Killing in Ogun State

A protest erupted on the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway on Tuesday morning after armed men invaded a student hostel in Eruku, Ogun State, killing a final-year student and injuring others. The Polytechnic's management, led by Engr.

Gideon O. Adekunle, confirmed the incident and suspended examinations scheduled for July 28 and 29, 2026, to allow students to regain emotional stability and honor the deceased.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the protest but could not immediately link it to the killing. The ongoing security threats in Ogun State have led to multiple incidents of violence against students, with previous attacks resulting in fatalities.

Adedayo Musari, the Dean of Students’ Affairs at the Polytechnic, highlighted the alarming trend of robbery cases targeting students, with significant casualties reported over the years. The police have been deployed to restore peace in the area.
