Gunmen Kill Former Councillor in Plateau State Attack

On Sunday night, at approximately 11:45 p.m., gunmen killed Daniel Danjuma Chong, a former councillor of Rim Ward in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, in Torok village. The attack instigated panic among residents, prompting them to flee after hearing sustained gunfire.

Cynitha Dung, a community resident, confirmed the incident, stating that by the time people emerged from their shelters, Chong had already been shot. Another resident, David Danjuma, suffered gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association, through its National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing, describing it as a disturbing assault on innocent residents. The association expressed condolences to Chong's family and the Torok community, urging security agencies and the Plateau State Government to pursue the attackers and enhance security in vulnerable areas.

They also called for the dismantling of criminal hideouts and reiterated the need for a ban on open grazing, which they believe is exploited by criminals.
