Renewed Violence in Kogi State Claims Lives, Destroys Homes

Renewed hostilities in Kogi State have led to significant violence, with reports indicating that several residents were killed during an attack on Ishi village on Tuesday afternoon. The incident appears to be a reprisal linked to ongoing disputes over farmland and fishing ponds between rival communities.

The Kogi State Police Command, led by Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed that two individuals were killed and that multiple residents, including women and children, fled to neighboring villages for safety. The police received a distress call at 7:04 PM on May 6, 2026, and dispatched a joint operation team comprising police, naval personnel, and vigilante groups to the area.

They successfully dispersed the attackers and recovered two male corpses with gunshot injuries. The police also found 57 spent cartridges at the scene.

Authorities have identified several individuals of interest connected to the conflict and urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue.
