Diri: Wigwe's Death Nearly Halted Bayelsa Power Project

Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, stated that the passing of Herbert Wigwe, the former Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank PLC, almost derailed a significant power project in the state. The project, which includes the commissioning of a power turbine, is part of Diri's administration's efforts to ensure 24-hour electricity supply in Bayelsa.

The turbine is currently undergoing test runs and is expected to extend power supply to various areas, including Yenagoa and beyond. Diri mentioned that the project is in its final stages and emphasized that it is not dead, contrary to some insinuations.

The governor also noted challenges faced during the project, including issues with transmission lines and the need for upgrades. He expressed satisfaction with the project's progress and highlighted the importance of stable electricity for the state's development.

Diri made these remarks during a cultural fiesta at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Amarata, Yenagoa.
