Umo Eno Defends PDP-to-APC Defection as Trailblazer

Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has publicly defended his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming he acted as a political forerunner akin to John the Baptist. In an interview with TVC, Eno explained that his decision was driven by practical necessity, emphasizing the importance of aligning with a party capable of providing funding for state development.

He noted that the presence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also from Akwa Ibom, influenced his choice, as remaining in the PDP could have led to political discord. Eno expressed foresight regarding the PDP's lack of support for his re-election, a view he stated was initially dismissed by critics.

He pointed out that many governors from the PDP have since joined the APC, validating his early decision. Eno described himself as a trailblazer among his peers and asserted that leadership is ultimately judged by outcomes over time.
