Omokri Retracts 'Drug Lord' Claim Against Tinubu

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and ambassador-designate, publicly admitted he was wrong to label President Bola Tinubu as a “drug lord.” During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Omokri revealed that he traveled to Chicago in September 2022 to investigate claims regarding Tinubu's academic history and alleged drug-related activities. He arrived in Chicago on September 18, 2022, and visited Chicago State University the next day, where officials provided him with documentary and photographic evidence confirming Tinubu's attendance.

Omokri stated that his investigations included checks of U.S. records, which showed no criminal arrest records or outstanding warrants against Tinubu. He clarified that while there was a civil forfeiture proceeding in 1993 involving approximately $460,000 linked to accounts associated with Tinubu, it was not a criminal conviction.

Despite retracting his earlier statement, Omokri acknowledged that political opponents might still use these records in future campaigns.
