INEC Sets October 9, 2026 for PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed October 9, 2026, as the date when Nigerians can begin picking up newly issued Permanent Voter Cards in preparation for the 2027 general election. INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan made the announcement on Monday during a zonal meeting with staff in Kaduna State, part of the commission's wider readiness assessment across Nigeria's six regions.

The timing follows three phases of the commission's Continuous Voter Registration drive, which added over 10.7 million new voters to the national register. These newly registered voters will receive their cards during the October collection period, enabling them to participate in the 2027 elections.

During his Kaduna visit, Amupitan stressed the importance of field-level operations in determining the success of Nigeria's electoral process. He directed INEC officials to address operational weaknesses, maintain political neutrality, and ensure that no avoidable lapses compromise the credibility of the collection exercise and the broader electoral process.

The North-West zonal visit formed part of Amupitan's national tour to assess how prepared INEC is for the 2027 elections across all operational levels. The commission's push to strengthen grassroots engagement reflects its effort to ensure that the electoral process functions smoothly from registration through voting day.
