Kaduna State Prioritizes Agriculture for Food Security

Kaduna State has faced significant challenges due to insecurity, including banditry and communal conflicts, which have disrupted farming and threatened food supply. Despite these issues, Governor Uba Sani's administration is committed to improving agriculture as a strategic priority.

Agriculture contributes between 43 and 45 percent of the state's Gross Domestic Product, with Kaduna being a leading producer of maize and ginger. The state has historically been recognized for its agricultural potential, particularly along the Kaduna–Jos–Benue axis.

However, years of violence have overshadowed this reputation. Governor Uba Sani is working to shift the narrative by placing agriculture at the center of economic planning and increasing budgetary allocations towards this sector, aiming to exceed the Malabo Declaration's recommendation for African governments to allocate at least 10 percent of public expenditure to agriculture.
