Kaduna State Prioritizes Agriculture Under Uba Sani

Kaduna State has faced significant challenges due to insecurity, including banditry and communal conflicts, which have adversely affected farming and food supply. Governor Uba Sani's administration is determined to change this narrative by prioritizing agriculture as a key component of economic planning.

Agriculture contributes between 43 and 45 percent of the state's Gross Domestic Product, with Kaduna being a major producer of maize and ginger. Despite the state's agricultural potential, years of violence have overshadowed its capabilities.

Uba Sani's government has committed to reversing this trend by increasing budgetary allocations for agriculture, surpassing the Malabo Declaration's recommendation for African governments to allocate at least 10 percent of public expenditure to the sector. In the 2023 budget, agriculture received ₦23.40 billion, indicating a strong commitment to enhancing food security and improving the livelihoods of citizens in Kaduna State.
