Opposition Lawmaker Stella Discusses Political Criticism

Stella, an opposition member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, spoke during a plenary session on Monday, revealing that she has faced ridicule for her decision to leave the Labour Party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) instead of aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). She acknowledged that such criticism is not unexpected in political life, which requires resilience.

Stella emphasized that her decision was guided by the interests of the people she represents and clarified that the ADC is not a new political platform but rather a continuation of her long-standing political structure. She addressed the intersection of religion and governance, noting that Nigeria operates as a secular state where political participation crosses faith lines.

Additionally, Stella, who chairs the House Committee on Wealth Creation and Employment, dismissed suggestions that her opposition status exposes her to discrimination within the assembly and commended Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for his impartial leadership.
