Jigawa Governor Praises Army for New 262 Tank Battalion

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi commended the Nigerian Army for the establishment of the 262 Tank Battalion in the Gumel area, describing it as a significant step towards bolstering security in the state and along Nigeria’s border communities. This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, during a briefing on the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday at the Government House in Dutse.

The council recognized the battalion's establishment as a milestone that would enhance military presence in the northern part of the state and improve rapid responses to security threats. Musa noted that the deployment would aid in combating cross-border crimes, banditry, and smuggling, while also fostering peace and public trust.

The state government expressed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces and ensuring an enabling environment for security operations, with the expectation that the battalion will also boost local economic activities.
