Jigawa Retires Judge Over Corruption, Promotes 80 Staff

The Jigawa Judicial Service Commission ordered the compulsory retirement of Shari’a judge Sadisu Muhammad Haruna following findings of corrupt practices and abuse of office. The commission's director of protocol, Abba Wangara, announced this decision on Tuesday, detailing that an investigation led by Abdullahi Hamza revealed Haruna had unlawfully demanded fees for petitions and had detained a petitioner, actions deemed serious breaches of judicial ethics.

This move is intended to send a strong message against corruption and the abuse of power within the judiciary. In addition to Haruna's retirement, the commission promoted over 80 staff members to recognize their outstanding performance and boost morale.

Notable appointments included Aliyu Muhammad as Deputy Chief Registrar, Abdulrashid Alhassan as Deputy Chief Registrar II, and Isma Il Sani as Chief Inspector of the Shari’a Court. Wangara assured the public of the commission's commitment to uphold integrity within the judicial system.
