Jigawa State Enacts Laws to Combat Drug Abuse

The Jigawa State government, led by Governor Umar Namadi, has signed new Executive Orders aimed at curbing drug abuse in the state. This initiative is part of the administration's commitment to its 12-Point Agenda, focusing on tackling drug abuse and fostering social transformation.

Governor Namadi emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach involving law enforcement, prevention, counselling, rehabilitation, and community participation. He called on various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and local authorities, to support programs that enhance opportunities in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

The Governor acknowledged the partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), which has seized nearly 2,000 kilograms of illicit drugs valued at over ₦2.8 billion and secured 136 convictions. NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa commended Governor Namadi for his support, noting the establishment of facilities for the agency and highlighting the low drug prevalence rate in Jigawa.
