EFCC Extradites Two Nigerians for Sextortion Crimes

On August 26, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extradited two Nigerian men, Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle, to the United States to face prosecution for their involvement in sextortion schemes that led to the deaths of two American teenage boys. The extradition was facilitated by the EFCC's Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 following investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The FBI linked both men to the sexual exploitation and financial extortion of male minors aged 13 to 17, using Child Sexual Abuse Material to blackmail victims into paying money. Adebola Festus Adekunle was arrested after the EFCC's investigations, while Mudashiru Afeez Olawale's extradition involved a lengthy legal process.

The FBI's request included a seven-count charge against Olawale, which encompassed serious offenses such as sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death. The EFCC filed extradition proceedings in Lagos, which were initially refused but later approved by the Court of Appeal on July 7, 2026, allowing for Olawale's extradition.
