Kano Governor Launches Sickle Cell Centre and Health Initiatives

On Monday, August 3, 2026, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf inaugurated a Sickle Cell Centre aimed at providing comprehensive care for individuals living with sickle cell disease. The centre will offer free diagnosis, counselling, treatment, follow-up care, and health education.

Additionally, he unveiled a new office complex for the Kano State Centre for Disease Control, enhancing the state's capacity to manage epidemic-prone diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and meningitis. Governor Yusuf also flagged off the distribution of 300 customised digital blood pressure monitors to public servants and political appointees to address hypertension-related health concerns.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sustaining the free maternal and Accident and Emergency commodities program, which has reportedly saved thousands of lives. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf, noted significant investments in the health sector since the administration took office, emphasizing the importance of the newly commissioned facilities.
