Abba Yusuf Requests N1.2tn Supplementary Budget Approval

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has submitted a request to the Kano State House of Assembly for the approval of a N1.2tn supplementary budget and amendment for the fiscal year. This request was presented in a letter read by the Speaker of the House, Isma’il Falgore, during a plenary session on Tuesday.

The governor explained that the need for the supplementary budget arose from a revenue shortfall due to the implementation of a new tax law, which resulted in lower-than-expected receipts from the Federation Account. Key revenue sources, including signature bonuses and NNPC refunds, remain with the Federal Government.

The proposed budget is to be financed through a combination of an N45bn opening balance, N753.44bn in recurrent revenue, and N402.82bn in capital receipts, totaling N1.201tn. The budget allocates N390.31bn for recurrent expenditure and N810.95bn for capital expenditure, with specific amounts designated for personnel costs, overheads, and debt servicing.

Governor Yusuf also proposed a partnership with local governments to enhance economic growth. The House referred the proposal to the Rules and Business Committee for further consideration.
