Kano State Launches Scholarships for Married Adolescents

The Kano State Government has announced a scholarship program aimed at married adolescents who wish to return to school, as part of efforts to enhance educational access and promote economic self-reliance. This announcement was made during the launch of the Kano State re-entry guidelines for married adolescents, organized jointly by the state government and AC Charity in partnership with the Malala Fund.

Mr. Eno Simon from AC Charity and Ms. Rahina Opotu from the Malala Fund spoke at a press conference, highlighting that 99% of married adolescents expressed a desire to continue their education. The guidelines aim to ensure that marriage does not permanently end a girl's educational aspirations.

The Kano State Government is committed to making adequate budgetary provisions to support these adolescents financially. The initiative includes flexible learning opportunities and childcare support to facilitate their return to school, addressing barriers such as financial hardship and social stigma.

The launch attracted senior government officials, educational stakeholders, and community leaders, emphasizing the importance of community support for married girls' education.
