Kwankwasiyya Movement Accuses Kano Government of Intimidation

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has accused the Kano State Government of using state institutions to intimidate opposition voices and obstruct development projects. In a statement by spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed (Mai Lemo), the movement expressed concern over a letter from the State Ministry of Works seeking to suspend a federal constituency road project for communities in Ungogo/Minjibir Federal Constituency.

The movement criticized the government for creating unusual administrative hurdles for projects facilitated by opposition lawmakers. They condemned the suspension of three councillors in Kano Municipal Local Government and two in Tarauni Local Government, asserting that these councillors were targeted for refusing to defect to the ruling party.

The group also criticized the Kano State Attorney-General for allegedly threatening to arrest critics of the government. They demanded an end to the obstruction of constituency projects, a review of the councillors' suspensions, and protection of citizens' rights to free expression and association.
