Kwara Law Officers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Allowances

The Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter, commenced an indefinite strike on July 27, 2026, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum to the state government regarding outstanding welfare issues. The strike was announced in a notice signed by the Acting Chairman, Kehinde Ayorinde, directing members to withdraw their services until their demands are met.

The association's grievances include the unpaid balance of the 2020 furniture allowance and robe allowances for 2024, 2025, and 2026. Additionally, they accused the government of failing to implement the harmonization of salaries and conditions of service for state counsel with those of magistrates, despite prior approvals.

Previous engagements with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Office of the Head of Service yielded no results, even after a warning strike in October 2025. The strike specifically affects lawyers in the Ministry of Justice and does not impact High Court workers or private legal practitioners.
