Lagos State Trains Health Workers on Environmental Safety

Lagos State Health District III organized a specialized training program for environmental health officers, nurses, and midwives to improve water testing and sampling techniques. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State government to equip frontline health personnel with modern skills necessary to tackle emerging environmental public health challenges.

The training session, held recently at the Health District III office in Ikoyi, was led by the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Monsurat Adeleke, who emphasized the importance of strengthening technical knowledge in water testing, waste segregation, safe handling, and proper disposal. Adeleke urged participants to remain attentive and view the training as an opportunity to acquire knowledge that can be shared with colleagues.

Mari Akinola, Director of Environmental Health Services, highlighted the need for modern scientific approaches in environmental health practices, transitioning from traditional methods to data-driven techniques. The training included a lecture by Dada Festu from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on approved procedures for water sampling and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
