LBS Empowers Elderly with Emergency Response Training

The Lagos Business School (LBS) conducted a training program aimed at equipping elderly residents at a home in Yaba, Lagos State, with fundamental emergency response skills. The initiative, led by Adaez Onwubuem, focused on encouraging active aging and addressing the neglect often experienced by older individuals in society.

The program included the donation of physiotherapy exercise equipment and the refurbishment of the physiotherapy area, creating a more inviting space with wall art. Onwubuem emphasized the importance of sustaining the initiative beyond its initial phase, with physiotherapists ensuring ongoing care and exercise routines.

Notably, participation among residents improved significantly, with an estimated 70 percent increase in engagement following the intervention. Deborah Adelek, involved in the program, facilitated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training sessions, where at least four elderly residents practiced essential emergency response techniques.

The training is crucial given the vulnerability of older adults to cardiac arrest, highlighting the importance of prompt emergency response.
