Seyi Makinde to Review Oriire Abduction Inquiry Report

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced his administration's commitment to reviewing the recommendations from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry regarding the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. He received the report from the commission, led by retired Justice (Prof.) Mojeed Owoade, at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

The commission was established on July 31, 2026, to investigate the circumstances of the abduction in Esinele and Yawota communities. Makinde emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that confidentiality would not be a barrier to responding to the findings.

He acknowledged the trauma caused by the incident, despite the return of the victims, and pledged to enhance security measures in schools and communities. Additionally, he urged for intensified efforts to secure the release of over 40 children abducted in Niger State on the same day as the Oriire incident.

Justice Owoade reported that the commission conducted extensive investigations, including site visits and public hearings.
