Man Dies Retrieving Phone from Well in Kano State

On Wednesday, a 45-year-old man named Yusuf Usman died while trying to retrieve his mobile phone that had fallen into a waste disposal pit in Kwa Town, located in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State. The Kano State Fire Service, led by Saminu Abdullahi, received a distress call at 11:13 AM regarding the incident.

Firefighters, including a staff member named Kabiru Tata, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Yusuf Usman trapped inside the pit and unable to climb out.

Rescuers successfully retrieved him, but he was unconscious and later confirmed dead, reportedly due to oxygen depletion and heat inside the pit. Alhaji Muktar, the ward head of Kwa Town, was informed of the incident.

The Kano State Fire Service's director, Alhaji Sani, urged residents to take safety precautions around wells and confined spaces, advising that abandoned wells should be properly covered or filled to prevent similar tragedies.
