Masai Russell Sets New 100m Hurdles World Record

At the Weltklasse Zurich meeting on Thursday, Olympic champion Masai Russell broke Tobi Amusan’s four-year reign as the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 12.09 seconds. This performance surpassed Amusan’s previous record of 12.12 seconds, set during the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Tobi Amusan finished the race in second place with a season's best time of 12.23 seconds. Russell, 26, took control of the race early, improving her personal best from 12.14 seconds, which she achieved at the Xiamen Diamond League in May.

Amusan had held the record since July 2022, when she recorded 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals of the World Championships. Despite her previous successes in Zurich in 2021 and 2022, Amusan was unable to secure a win this time, marking Russell's fourth victory over her in their head-to-head meetings this year.
