Masai Russell Breaks Tobi Amusan’s 100m Hurdles Record

American Olympic champion Masai Russell broke Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan’s world record in the women’s 100 metres hurdles, clocking 12.09 seconds at the Zurich Diamond League. Russell's performance surpassed Amusan’s previous record of 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, United States.

This achievement ended Amusan’s four-year reign as the world record holder. Russell demonstrated exceptional pace and technical efficiency, aggressively attacking the hurdles and maintaining momentum to achieve her record time.

Although Amusan's record has been surpassed, her 12.12 seconds remains the African record in the event. Amusan's historic performance at the 2022 World Championships included a 12.40 seconds run in the opening round and a victory in the final, solidifying her status among the world's elite sprint hurdlers.

In the Zurich Diamond League results, Amusan recorded a season-best time of 12.23 seconds, while Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser finished with a season-best of 12.34 seconds.
