JUSUN Nasarawa State Branch Launches Indefinite Strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa State Branch, declared an indefinite strike effective from midnight on September 15, 2026, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum to the state government and the Judicial Service Commission. Mas’ud Ubangari, the state chairman of JUSUN, confirmed the strike, citing concerns over the authorities' delay tactics in addressing their demands.

The union's key demands include the immediate implementation of a 40% Peculiar Allowance approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, financial autonomy for the judiciary, a 58.1% salary increase, and the resolution of pending conversions and promotions. Ogbere Zachariah, the Public Relations Officer of JUSUN, criticized the Nasarawa State Government for its negligence in responding to these demands, emphasizing the economic hardship faced by judiciary workers, who are reportedly the lowest paid in Nigeria.

The union seeks compliance with constitutional provisions and the cancellation of contract appointments to facilitate career progression.
