NDC Candidate Ajia Critiques Sealing of Non-Indigenous Businesses

Professor Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election in Kwara State, criticized the alleged indiscriminate sealing of business premises belonging to non-indigenous residents due to disputed or unpaid taxes, levies, and regulatory charges. In a statement issued in Ilorin, Ajia demanded the immediate reopening of any premises sealed without due process.

He emphasized that Kwara belongs to everyone who lives, works, and invests in the state, and warned against using state institutions to intimidate ethnic communities or political opponents. Ajia stated that while businesses must pay lawful taxes, assessments should be transparent and fair.

He expressed concern that many affected businesses might belong to long-settled non-indigenous residents, including those perceived to support his candidacy. Ajia called for the KW-IRS to disclose the legal basis for the charges and the process followed in sealing the businesses.

He advocated for a balanced approach to tax enforcement that supports business survival and growth.
