NDC Reschedules Primaries to May 29 Amid Eid Celebrations

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a shift in the date for its primaries to May 29, as stated in a joint statement issued late Wednesday night. The party's national chairman, Senator Moses Cleopa, and the national secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex Morgan Enekweizu, explained that the adjustment was necessary due to the Eid el-Kabir celebrations, which created public holiday-related transport and logistical difficulties across the country.

Aspirants will undergo a screening exercise on May 28 in Abuja, where a screening committee will be present. The statement emphasized that no state institution, including the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would play a role in the screening process.

The actual primaries will be conducted on May 29, with a meeting scheduled for May 28 to prepare for the event. The party also affirmed that the governorship primaries would involve a delegate voting process, with results collated and forwarded to the party's national headquarters.
