NDLEA Destroys Cannabis Farm in Cross River, Recovers Hemp

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) destroyed a cannabis farm located in Akamkpa, Cross River State, and recovered 119 kilograms of hemp during the operation. Peter Bisong, the Deputy Commander of Narcotics for the NDLEA, stated that the cannabis flower plant is often abused as a psychoactive substance and is used to produce hemp fiber.

The NDLEA's operation was carried out in collaboration with troops from the Nigerian Army's 13 Brigade in Calabar, following credible intelligence from concerned members of the public about illegal cannabis cultivation in the area. The destroyed farm spanned six hectares and the estimated street value of the drugs destroyed is approximately N500 million.

Bisong added that the agency would extend its investigation to trace the owner of the farm in order to stamp out illegal cannabis cultivation.
