NEDC, Yobe State Distribute Relief After Boat Mishap

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Yobe State Government distributed rescue boats and relief materials to residents of Ngarbi and Bombori communities in the Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State. This initiative follows a tragic boat mishap on January 3, which resulted in several fatalities involving passengers traveling from Adiyani in Guri Local Government Area, Jigawa State, to Ngarbi.

The distribution, which occurred on a Wednesday, aims to strengthen water transport safety and alleviate hardships faced by the victims' families. Prof.

Ali Ibrahim Abba, the Yobe State Coordinator for NEDC, emphasized the importance of preventing future incidents. The support includes food and non-food items, such as 100 life jackets, 10 inflatable rescue boats, and two speedboats equipped with hydraulic davits.

Dr. Moham Goje, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, urged residents to adopt safer practices regarding boat travel.

The local council, represented by Hon. Muhammad Mairami, expressed gratitude for the intervention.
