Nigeria and Vietnam Strengthen Economic, Political Ties

On a recent occasion in Abuja, Dunoma Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Vietnamese Ambassador Bui Quoc Hung to discuss deepening economic and political cooperation between Nigeria and Vietnam. The discussions, as reported by the Ministry’s spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi, focused on strengthening political and diplomatic engagement, including the potential establishment of an annual political consultation mechanism.

Both parties reviewed opportunities to expand bilateral trade, which exceeded one billion dollars in 2025. Ahmed encouraged Vietnamese investors to explore sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, processing, mining, renewable energy, and textiles.

Additionally, the two countries reviewed outstanding agreements related to agriculture, defence, investment protection, taxation, consular matters, trade, and political consultations. They reaffirmed their commitment to translating bilateral cooperation into tangible outcomes in trade, investment, defence, and people-to-people exchanges.
