Nigerian Government Launches New Salaries Commission Board

On August 14, 2026, the Nigerian Government inaugurated the Salaries and Wages Commission Board in Abuja. The ceremony was led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who described the event as significant for Nigeria's economic transformation under President Bola Tinubu.

Akume highlighted the board's challenge to balance fair remuneration, productivity, and economic realities, especially following the new National Minimum Wage framework. He urged the board to ensure its recommendations are evidence-based and fiscally responsible.

President Tinubu appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa (Rtd.) as the Board Chairman, with Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas serving as Secretary. Other members include Dr.

Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, Yakubu Umar Barde, Dr. Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh, and Bello Moronke Iyabode.

Bindawa expressed gratitude for the appointment and committed to constructive engagement with Organized Labour.
