NiMet Warns of Thunderstorms Across 15 States on September 24

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning for thunderstorms affecting at least 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on September 24, 2026. The forecast, published on September 23, indicates varying intensities of thunderstorms across the country.

Northern states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Taraba, are expected to experience moderate rainfall by the afternoon and evening. Central states such as Plateau, Niger, Kogi, and the FCT will also see thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.

In the southern regions, isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall are anticipated in Ondo and Akwa Ibom, while the South East and South South regions may experience moderate rainfall. NiMet advises residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces, and secure loose outdoor items due to strong winds.

Motorists are cautioned about reduced visibility and slippery conditions. Additionally, airline operators are instructed to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet for safe flight planning.
