NNRA Partners with Security Agencies to Enforce Nuclear Safety Regulations in Nigeria

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) has partnered with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force to enhance the enforcement of nuclear safety and radiation protection regulations in Nigeria. Dr.

Yau Idri, the NNRA Director-General, highlighted the challenges of ensuring compliance, especially in the healthcare sector, where safety protocols are often overlooked. The NNRA has been tasked by the Ministry of Health to close non-compliant hospitals.

The collaboration with DSS and the Police aims to address these issues, with a focus on training personnel and improving regulatory competence. Mr.

Shakir Akored of Halimasalam Nigeria Ltd emphasized the crucial role of regulatory agencies in protecting public health and ensuring the safe use of modern technologies, particularly in sectors like nuclear energy. The NNRA is committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards violations of nuclear safety regulations to uphold transparency and fairness in regulatory practices.
