Interior Ministry Faces Zero Capital Allocation for Two Years

During a budget defense session in Abuja, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed that the Ministry has not received any capital allocation for two consecutive fiscal years, resulting in a complete halt to the execution of capital projects. Tunji-Ojo stated that the Ministry's capital project performance stood at zero percent due to the absence of actual cash backing, despite the National Assembly approving capital allocations.

He emphasized that this situation is a major setback for project implementation and infrastructure development within the Ministry. Lawmakers, including Adam Oshiomhole, expressed concern over the recurring bottleneck, which undermines effective budget implementation.

They stressed the need for the National Assembly to fulfill its constitutional responsibility to approve budgets and ensure timely fund releases to enable the Ministry and its agencies to deliver on their mandates. The ongoing delay in capital releases threatens to stall and abandon critical projects, particularly in security and public safety sectors.
