NUJ FCT and Nizamiye Hospital Provide Free Health Tests

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, led by Chairman Grace Ik, collaborated with Nizamiye Hospital to offer free medical tests for journalists in Abuja. This initiative is part of the outreach program to promote health and well-being among media practitioners, who often work under stressful conditions.

Grace Ik highlighted the need for journalists to prioritize their health, as they frequently neglect personal well-being while serving society. Dr.

Uzochukwu Chetachi from Nizamiye Hospital explained that the outreach aimed to provide journalists with access to free medical consultations and examinations, including services from specialists in cardiology, ophthalmology, and general practice. The event coincided with the NUJ FCT Council's 2026 Press Week, themed "2027 Elections: Defend Democracy in an Era of Disinformation." During the opening ceremony, Ik urged media practitioners to uphold journalistic ethics and combat the spread of misinformation, which poses a significant threat to democracy.

The week-long program will include discussions on media safety and public interest reporting.
