NUPRC Pushes for Completion of 10-Storey HQ in Abuja

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is advocating for the completion of its 10-storey headquarters, known as The Barrel, which is designed to accommodate 900 to 1,000 people. Located in the Central Business District of Abuja, the construction began in 2020 but remains unfinished, leading the NUPRC to operate from smaller offices across the Federal Capital Territory.

During an inspection, NUPRC Board Chairman Senator Magnus Abe expressed concern over the negative image projected when major oil and gas companies must navigate multiple locations to engage with the regulator. He stated that this situation is embarrassing for Nigeria and detrimental to business.

Senator Abe praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and vision for the oil and gas sector, noting a resurgence of investment in the upstream petroleum sector. NUPRC Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan urged the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, to expedite construction, aiming for project delivery by the first quarter of 2027.
