Chidi Okezie Prepares for African Championships in Ghana

Chidi Okezie, a 32-year-old Nigerian athlete, is preparing for the African Senior Athletics Championships scheduled to take place in Ghana from May 12 to 17. Okezie, who won his first individual gold at the senior level by claiming the men's 400m title, is looking forward to competing on Ghanaian soil.

He recently played a crucial role in helping Nigeria qualify for the mixed 4x400m relay event at the 2027 World Championships in Beijing, securing a ticket through the repechage at the recently concluded World Relay Championships in Gaborone, Botswana. Okezie set a new personal best of 32.05 in the men's 300m at the Simbin Classic in Pretoria, South Africa, and has been actively competing to build up for the championships.

He expressed confidence in his ability to excel under pressure, stating that he aims to replicate his previous success. His teammate, Samuel Ogazi, has also set a new national record in the event, contributing to the competitive spirit within the team.
