Ondo State Leaves N4.73 Billion Unspent for Universities

The Ondo State Government failed to fully release and utilize N1.79 billion budgeted for Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, in 2025. As of June 2026, N4.73 billion remained unspent due to low budget implementation.

AAUA had a final budget allocation of N3.7 billion in 2025 but spent only N2.6775 billion, leaving N1.0225 billion unspent. OAUSTECH received N1.56 billion but only spent N796 million, resulting in N764 million unspent.

In 2026, AAUA was allocated N4.5 billion but spent only N1.33875 billion, while OAUSTECH had an allocation of N1.9511 billion and spent N378 million. This led to a combined unspent amount of N4.73435 billion by June 2026, raising concerns about the pace of funding and implementation.

The situation is exacerbated by ongoing strike actions from staff at both universities, who accuse the state government of negligence.
