Only Authorized Security Agencies for Osun Election

On Wednesday, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, stated that only constitutionally recognized security agencies are permitted to participate in the security operations for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, scheduled for August 15. The AIG emphasized that groups such as the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), local vigilante groups, and other unauthorized bodies are prohibited from engaging in security functions or crowd control during the election.

A statement from the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Ojedele Tunji, indicated that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other recognized security agencies, will be responsible for maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election. All security personnel assigned to election duties must be properly identified and wear approved uniforms.

The command warned that any individual or group engaging in unauthorized security activities or attempting to intimidate voters or electoral officials will face legal consequences. Political parties and the public are urged to cooperate with security personnel and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
