Oyo Government Impounds Nine Cattle to Curb Open Grazing

The Oyo State government, through the Oyo State Rural Electrification Agency (OYRLEA), impounded nine cattle that were found roaming freely at Ijaye Farm Settlement in Akinyele Local Government Area. Hon.

Justic Aderonk Aderemi (rtd), chairperson of OYRLEA, stated that this action represents a significant step towards curbing the activities of herders in farm settlements and promoting sustainable agriculture within the state. The Oyo State government has consistently condemned open grazing and is committed to protecting farmers while ensuring a secure environment for agricultural activities to thrive.

This enforcement action is seen as a major victory for farmers in Ijaye, who can now breathe a sigh of relief as their lands are safeguarded from the threats posed by open grazing. Hon.

Aderemi stressed that the Oyo State government remains resolute in its stance against open grazing and will continue to take decisive actions against individuals engaging in harmful practices. The cattle impounded will be kept in a kraal within the Oyo State secretariat, and the owners are required to report to the OYRLEA office within seven days for proper identification and to settle any associated fines.
