Wike: Opposition Status Earned Through Electoral Victories

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated that the status of an opposition party is achieved through electoral victories rather than through emergency coalitions. Speaking during a visit to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters at Wadata House in Abuja, Wike dismissed claims that smaller political groups could position themselves as the leading opposition voice.

He asserted that performance in elections is the true test of relevance and that one cannot become an opposition party without winning elections. Wike's remarks come amid realignments within Nigeria's political landscape as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and encouraged unity to rebuild the party following internal crises. Wike also urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to prioritize reconciliation with defected members and expressed confidence that the party would prevail in ongoing legal battles.

PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Moham assured that the new leadership would restore public confidence in the party.
