Accord Raises Alarm Over Alleged Election Materials Theft

The Osun State chapter of the Accord has expressed serious concerns regarding an alleged plot to steal sensitive election materials in the lead-up to the governorship election scheduled for August 15. In a statement issued on Thursday, signed by Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, the party claimed to have credible intelligence indicating that opposition elements are planning to disrupt the electoral process by compromising the deployment of these materials.

The party warned that such actions could disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters and undermine the credibility of the election. Accord urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement strict accountability and security measures for the handling of sensitive election materials.

The party also called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, to investigate the claims and take preventive actions. Accord emphasized that any negligence allowing for the theft or diversion of election materials would be seen as a betrayal of INEC's constitutional responsibilities and vowed to oppose any attempts to manipulate the election outcome.
