PDP BoT to Appoint Caretaker Committee Amid Crisis

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by Wabara, is scheduled to hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today to appoint a caretaker committee. This decision comes in response to a Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 30, which nullified the validity of the current National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The judgment necessitated the intervention of the BoT to prevent a leadership vacuum within the party. The meeting is set to take place in Abuja, with the consent of two-thirds of the NEC members.

The caretaker committee will oversee the party's affairs pending the conduct of a fresh national convention. The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nysem Wike, has indicated that he does not recognize the legality of the meeting, which is part of efforts to stabilize the party following the Supreme Court's verdict.
