Kano Police Arrest Two for Spirit Impersonation Fraud

On April 10, 2026, the Kano State Police Command arrested two suspects, Ahmad Ibrahim (24) and Isma Il Muhammad (22), for their involvement in a fraudulent scheme where they impersonated a spirit known locally as "aljannu" to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. The suspects, residing in Dandinsh Quarter, Dala Local Government Area, specialized in manipulating voices during phone conversations to instill fear in their victims.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they contacted victims using multiple GSM lines, posing as supernatural entities that threatened misfortune unless specific instructions were followed. The suspects allegedly defrauded around 500 victims, utilizing a total of 28 SIM cards for their operations.

CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police public relations officer, stated that the suspects confessed to their crimes during interrogation. CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the swift action of the police in dismantling this criminal network and urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities.
