Bandit Attack in Katsina Claims Lives of Officer, Civilians

On April 5, 2026, a bandit attack occurred in Matazu Local Government Area, Katsina State, leading to the deaths of one police officer and two civilians. The Katsina State Police Command, represented by Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident, stating that armed bandits opened fire on a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, resulting in fatalities.

Following the report, a joint operation involving police and military forces was mobilized to the scene to dislodge the assailants and evacuate victims to a nearby hospital. The bandits regrouped and attempted to attack the Musawa police division but were successfully repelled.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, has initiated investigations to apprehend the perpetrators and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. Governor Dikko Radda visited Sayaya Village to assess the damage caused by the attack, which included the looting of shops and an ambush on a police station, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and directing additional security operations in the area.
