Delta Police Demote Officers for Extortion via POS

The Delta State Police Command has demoted Inspector Augustin Jeremiah to the rank of Sergeant and Corporal Miracl Ehirim to Constable after they were found guilty of extortion. This decision was made following a viral video that surfaced on January 13, 2026, showing the officers receiving money from motorists using a Point of Sale (POS) terminal inside the police station.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, stated that the officers' actions were in violation of the Police Act of 2020 and discredited the force. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, emphasized that the use of POS terminals for receiving money from the public within police stations is strictly prohibited.

Oyeniyi reiterated the commitment of the police to uphold professional integrity and urged the public to report any misconduct by officers through appropriate channels.
