Oyo Police Re-arrest Kidnap Suspect After Escape

The Oyo State Police Command re-arrested Ayomid Kareem, a 25-year-old male, on March 17, 2026, after he had escaped police custody on March 10, 2026. His escape raised public concern and triggered protests within the community.

The police apprehended Kareem during a routine stop-and-search operation at Irepo Junction in the Ojongbodu area. Following his identification, it was confirmed that he had previously escaped custody in connection with a kidnapping case.

The police are currently holding him to assist with ongoing investigations. In response to the incident, the police command, led by Commissioner Femi Haruna, initiated disciplinary actions against officers found culpable, including redeploying the division police officer involved.

The command reassured residents of its commitment to safety and security and urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding while continuing to support police efforts.
